Michael Lechner is a seasoned trial and appellate attorney with more than 24 years of diverse legal experience. He is the principal attorney of the law firm Michael Lechner Law LLC. Before entering private practice, Mr. Lechner served as a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney - one of the largest and busiest prosecution offices in the country - where he tried hundreds of cases to verdict. He led all aspects of litigation in a wide range of criminal offenses including serious felonies, juvenile justice matters and lesser misdemeanor crimes. Mr. Lechner, a former journalist and law review editor, has written many appellate briefs and argued successfully before the Illinois Court of Appeals.
Recognized for his litigation and appellate law proficiency, Mr. Lechner has served as a senior legal advisor for U.S. legal reform efforts internationally. Over the past decade, Mr. Lechner has advised and trained prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges from more than a dozen countries, particularly in post-conflict and conflict zones such as Afghanistan and Kosovo, to ensure access to justice is provided by competent, independent, and ethical legal actors and judicial officers.
