APPEALS & POST-CONVICTION RELIEF
-
Direct appeal of conviction or sentence (final judgment) to Illinois’ appellate courts based on errors in the trial court record (i.e., evidence did not support the verdict; trial was unfair; judge made legal or factual errors, etc.)
-
Petition the court based on newly discovered evidence that demonstrates actually innocence of the crime for which you were convicted; the evidence of actual innocence must be “newly discovered” (i.e., not available at the original trial) and could not have been discovered any sooner
-
If eligible, eliminate (expunge) records of a police encounter or criminal case from your record that did not result in a conviction or seal a conviction
